Our Grandmillennial Dorm Room Reveal: Everything We Bought & Planned for My Daughter's College Dorm

Moving your daughter into her college dorm is such a bittersweet milestone. While I may not be ready for her to leave home, I am excited to create a cozy little space where she and her roommate can feel comfortable, inspired, and at home.

Instead of the typical bright, trendy dorm décor, we decided to create a room inspired by grandmillennial style—soft florals, bows, hydrangeas, vintage-inspired artwork, scallops, and plenty of pink and blue accents.

This post shares everything we're using to bring our vision to life, along with decorating tips that work in almost any dorm room.

Our Color Palette

We wanted the room to feel bright, feminine, timeless, and relaxing.

Our colors include:

  • Soft blue

  • Blush pink

  • White

  • Gold accents

  • Hydrangea florals

  • Delicate bows

  • Classic stripes

The result is a space that feels cozy without looking cluttered.

The Bedding

The bedding became the foundation for the entire room design.

I recommend choosing neutral bedding first, then layering color through pillows and accessories.

The Fancy Frocks Chandelier

Every dorm room deserves one statement piece.

For ours, that's the Fancy Frocks™ decorative chandelier.

It's lightweight, ships flat, and assembles in just a few minutes, making it perfect for dorm rooms where traditional lighting isn't an option.

We'll be hanging ours over the sink area to add a whimsical touch.

Mini Fridge Makeover

Plain black mini fridges can feel a little boring.

That's why I created Fridge Frocks™—removable magnetic panels that instantly transform dorm refrigerators into decorative furniture.

We'll be using our Rose Trellis Collection to coordinate with the rest of the room.

Decor Details That Make the Biggest Difference

Sometimes the smallest details have the biggest impact.

We'll also be adding:

These pieces help create a room that feels layered, warm, and thoughtfully designed.

Final Thoughts

Creating this dorm room has been such a special project for us. It's more than just decorating—it's about giving my daughter and her roommate a welcoming space where they can study, relax, make memories, and truly feel at home.

If you love grandmillennial, cottagecore, or classic feminine décor, I hope this inspires you to create a dorm that reflects your own style.

I'll continue sharing updates as we decorate, so be sure to follow along!
